News Update. CALL FOR ARTISTS: Lilyan Fierman Walkway Mural.

Forty-four artists submitted concepts for the mural at the Lilyan Fierman Walkway in San Pedro, adjacent to the historic Warner Grand Theatre. The deadline was July 15.  In the near future, the Arts District’s Design Advisory Panel will review the concepts individually, then meet together to review and make their recommendations to the Arts District Board of Directors.

This mural is a project of the San Pedro Waterfront Arts District, in collaboration with City of Los Angeles Council District 15, and the LA Department of Cultural Affairs.

The artists were asked to consider this theme:  “Unexpected Pedro” – the San Pedro Waterfront Arts District appreciates artwork that evokes a sense of intrigue, whimsy, discovery, engagement and connection, set against the backdrop of our gritty glamour. We want this mural to attract visitors to the walkway and be a highlight of the Arts District. The 2D painted mural is intended to energize the newly renovated Lilyan Fierman Walkway and is a transition onto 6th street, with access to the 5th street parking lot. Consideration will be given to artists who design their submissions with the location/vista in mind, as well as the imagery from the Warner Grand Theatre. Artwork depicting religious, overtly sexual or political themes will not be allowed.
